The focus of this article lies on selected elements of folk beliefs that constitute the fundament of folk prose genres and, at the same time, represent a common research object shared by religious studies and folkloristics. The author sums up the research findings concerning those folk narratives of eastern Slovakia that are included in the folk prose collections of S.
Cambel and V. Some problems of terminological and genological character are outlined and some classification peculiarities discernible in the Slovak scholarly discourse in regard to the folk narrative genres are discussed. The scope of the article is to identify traditional and non-traditional representations of folk belief elements in narrative tradition.
